We are looking for:


Syensqo is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, who will have individual accountability for site
HSE, Quality, Productivity, and Manufacturing Excellence objectives. The ideal candidate has hands on
experience Instrument and Controls Engineer to provide on-going support for a chemical manufacturing
operation at the Cytec Canada Inc (a member of the Syensqo Group) Niagara Falls, Ontario site. The individual
will be actively involved in the design, specification, installation, start-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting
of the necessary field instruments and control system hardware. The individual will also be responsible for
supporting new installations to upgrade Process Safety or increase the level of Process Automation.

 

We Count on you to:

  • Working with the Site Maintenance, Operations, and Process Control teams, to troubleshoot and
    determine instrument repair or upgrade plans to support plant operations.
  • Manage assigned process control and electrical improvement projects including schedule, budget, testing
    requirements and start-up with required documentation and approvals.
  • Develop specifications for new or existing equipment and instrumentation based on specific manufacturing
    and process requirements.
  • Provide the necessary Instrumentation and Controls support to other on-site Project Managers who are
    supporting the site’s improvement and capacity expansion plans.
  • Work with Instrument / Electrical Technicians and the Process Control Group to conduct troubleshooting of
    field instruments and control system hardware.
  • Work with vendors and procurement to understand availability, suitability and cost of alternative
    instrument solutions.
  • Supervise and manage outside contractors (both design and field construction), as necessary, to complete
    project work meeting all site safety requirements.
  • Follow Site Management of Change (MOC) procedures, conduct appropriate safety reviews during the
    engineering definition, interlock and alarm design, and testing phases as required.
  • Responsible for the development of future process control, electrical and automation projects through a
    stage-gate process including project evaluation, assessment, definition, design, execution and start-up.
  • Prepares or reviews Preventative Maintenance work plans for Instrument & Control systems.

 

You will bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical, Instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical plant environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with process control systems (such as Emerson DeltaV and
    Siemens APACS), digital instrumentation systems, and safety interlock systems, including their
    design, configuration, and start-up.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing projects involving the implementation or replacement of
    control systems, process instrumentation, human-machine interfaces, and process data networks.
  • Working knowledge of HART, ASi, Ethernet IP, and DeviceNet protocols
  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to clearly convey project work plans, provide justification for additional automation projects, and support the development of equipment and functional control specifications.
  • Working knowledge of OSI/PI (or equivalent) process historian systems is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Electrical Area Classification and the Canadian Electrical Code for the installation of
    instruments in hazardous areas.
  • Working knowledge of industrial network infrastructure and fiber optics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with three-phase AC motors and industrial motor controls, including Variable Frequency
    Drives.
  • Ability to use CAD software to develop or modify loop drawings, wiring diagrams, single-line
    diagrams, and cabinet layout drawings.
  • Experience working with instrument and communication systems connected to Siemens APACS or Emerson
    DeltaV.

  • Competitive salary and benefits 
  • The Canadian annual base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this new hire is: $92,000 to $115,000.  Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, such as skills, experience, qualifications, etc. and can ultimately be more or less than the posted salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives
