Film Processing & Industrialization Engineer
Fixed-term contract
China - Changshu, CN
Nov 6, 2026
Syensqo is all about chemistry. We’re not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet’s beauty for the generations to come.
Role and Responsibilities
About the role:
- We are looking for a hands-on Film Processing & Industrialization Engineer to support the scale-up, qualification, stabilization, and continuous improvement of film manufacturing processes in China. The role connects R&I, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, HSE, and external manufacturing partners to translate materials expertise into safe, reliable production. The engineer will work closely with plant operators and technical teams, both in Syensqo operations and at tolling partners. Strong industrial safety awareness, sound judgment, and an ability to collaborate across different operating environments are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Lead film process industrialization from technical feasibility and plant trials through process-window definition, line qualification, validation, start-up, and stable commercial production.
- Work hands-on with operators, technicians, maintenance, and production teams to troubleshoot processing challenges, establish practical operating conditions, and implement sustainable improvements.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to improve film quality, yield, throughput, process capability, and operating stability through materials and polymer processing expertise.
- Plan, conduct, and document production trials and qualifications, recording operating conditions, process performance, product properties, technical risks, and follow-up actions.
- Support implementation of process monitoring and control improvements in collaboration with automation and instrumentation teams; use production data to diagnose variation and optimize performance.
- Use polymer and film characterization results, including mechanical, electrical, and thermal testing as applicable, to understand material–process–performance relationships.
- Coordinate industrialization and improvement projects across internal functions, suppliers, and external manufacturing partners; align deliverables, responsibilities, timelines, and technical handovers.
- Apply structured root-cause analysis, Six Sigma methods, and effective technical communication to resolve recurring losses and transfer learning to plant teams.
- Take HSE Responsibilities within Syensqo-operated facilities and at tollers and other external manufacturing partners
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; an advanced degree is an advantage.
- Hands-on industrial experience in materials processing, ideally polymers, and a genuine willingness to work frequently on the production floor alongside operators. Prior film processing experience is not essential.
- Approximately 5–10 years of film processing experience is preferred; strong candidates from other polymer or materials processing technologies will also be considered.
- A demonstrated commitment to safe industrial work, practical hazard recognition, and constructive collaboration with plant and HSE teams. Exposure to PHA, MOC, or PSM is desirable; willingness to strengthen these skills through training is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to influence without direct authority when working with manufacturing partners and multidisciplinary teams.
- Working knowledge of polymer or film characterization methods, including mechanical, electrical, and thermal property testing.
- Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification; Black Belt certification is a plus.
- Experience with process controls, instrumentation, manufacturing data, or hands-on control system implementation is valuable.
- Project management experience, including coordination with external parties, is valuable.
- Willingness and ability to travel more than 50% of working time, with frequent visits to production and tolling sites.
What We Offer
- A role with direct impact on film manufacturing industrialization and reliable production across a network of internal and external partners.
- Cross-functional collaboration with R&I, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and HSE specialists, including support for technical and HSE development.
- Opportunities for structured onboarding, learning across different manufacturing environments, and growth in polymer processing, industrialization, process control, and project leadership.
- Competitive salary package.
- 16 weeks of maternity, paternity, or co-parenting leave.
- Access to a comprehensive training platform.
