OVERALL OBJECTIVE To be fully conversant with the production of locally made chemical products for Solvay New Zealand. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Plant Operator is responsible for the manufacture and dispatch of products from the Levin plant and for the maintenance and house keeping of the plant and equipment These responsibilities require manufacturing to be performed safely, complying with the law, QC procedures, product specifications, SOP's and batch methods and that dispatch is without delay and in compliance with relevant transport regulations. The maintenance refers to the plant, stores and grounds. The house keeping refers to the proper storage of materials and equipment in accordance with SOP's and the maintenance of a safe, tidy site. Production • Liaise with supervisor on daily production needs. • Set up of equipment needed for batches and ready ingredients for them • Manufacture said batches in accordance with written methods • Sampling of batches to Quality Control to ensure product is within specifications • Make adjustments of products to bring into specification. • Pack batches correctly and label them ready for dispatch • Keep manufacturing area clean and tidy, washing down of mezzanine and ground floor as required. • Have a full working knowledge of all manufacturing and related equipment on site. Warehousing • Unloading of trucks and making sure relevant paperwork is in order • Storing of chemicals in their proper places (e.g. acrylic acid in hot box) • Keep finished goods store and chemical storage areas clean and tidy. • Prepare finished goods for dispatch and make sure all relevant documents are in place before dispatching Boiler • Blowing down of boiler and checking that the boiler chemical tanks are topped up. • Routine testing of boiler chemicals. ISO • Have a sound knowledge of the ISO 9001 system and work within the system. Health, Safety & Environment • Adhere to SOP's and the law • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others. • Consider your working and community environment when taking actions which could impact on these. • Contribute at staff meetings in this area as much as possible.
- Education and/or Experience
- Training To complete courses in First Aid and Health & Safety.
- To complete skill form until an appropriate level is met.
- To complete forklift training to OSH standard.
- To complete Accredited Person training for Transitional Facility
- To complete HSNO training as an Approved Handler
- To avoid lost time accidents due to non compliance with SOP's, laws or commonsense.
- To ensure all equipment is maintained to safe and efficient standards.
- Certificates, Licences and registrations
- NZ Drivers Licence OSH Forklift licence
- HSNO Approved Handler Accredited Person (Transitional Facility)
- Language skills Able to communicate with all personnel on site Mathematical skill
- Basic level of skill required in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Reasoning ability Sufficient for working independently on a given task
- Physical demands
- The individual will be expected to have a standard of fitness to enable them to carry out all of the duties above.
- CLOTHINGIGROOMING Protective clothing as necessary will be provided by the company and it is the employee's responsibility to wear this.
