Responsibilities:  

  1. Maintain expertise and regulatory awareness 

  • Monitor, interpret, and apply relevant local, national, and international HSE legislation and regulations. 

  • Stay up to date on new developments in the HSE field and assess applicability within your scope. 

  • Collect, review, document, and share best practices and lessons learned. 

  • Maintain current knowledge of HSE aspects related to site products, processes, and installations within your perimeter. 

  1. Deploy Group and site HSE policies, objectives, programs, and tools 

  • Deploy and follow up on Group HSE policies, objectives, programs, and tools. 

  • Review Group programs and propose site-specific adaptations and improvements. 

  • Support testing of new Group HSE programs/tools when the site is designated as a pilot site. 

  • Deploy, monitor, and follow up on site HSE objectives and (continuous) improvement plans. 

  • Select, specify, and implement appropriate HSE tools, methods, and approaches. 

  1. Drive continuous improvement of site HSE performance 

  • Anticipate and assess HSE impacts of planned changes (new/modified products, processes, or installations). 

  • Develop, update, and maintain HSE procedures, work instructions, and handbooks. 

  • Implement HSE engagement, awareness, and training programs for employees and subcontractors. 

  • Develop and distribute HSE communication materials (manuals, bulletins, videos, posters/visual aids). 

  1. Ensure compliance with HSE policies, standards, and legal requirements 

  • Ensure operations and products comply with applicable legislation, standards, and Syensqo HSE requirements. 

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents/non-conformities; analyze root causes and define corrective and preventive actions. 

  • Verify correct use of HSE procedures and protective devices; intervene to eliminate unsafe conditions. 

  • Conduct regular inspections and ad hoc HSE visits. 

  • Participate in internal/external HSE audits and contribute to identifying and implementing improvement actions. 

  1. Provide HSE expertise, advice, and support to the site organization 

  • Deliver or support HSE training for employees and subcontractors. 

  • Communicate relevant changes in HSE legislation and environmental requirements to stakeholders. 

  • Provide proactive and on-request HSE guidance to employees and contractors. 

  • Support HSE-by-design in the design, construction, and modification of equipment, facilities, and processes. 

  1. Provide HSE reporting and HSE Management System coordination 

  • Apply and monitor HSE KPIs and performance monitoring methodologies. 

  • Collect, analyze, and report HSE performance data to Group and GBU management. 

  • Coordinate administrative activities related to the site HSE Management System. 

  1. Engage with authorities, local communities, and key stakeholders 

  • Support discussions and negotiations with public authorities on HSE matters under the supervision of the Site HSE Manager. 

  • Represent the site during external environmental and safety audits/inspections. 

  • Prepare and maintain required HSE documentation for authorities, local communities, and other stakeholders. 

  1. Documentation and records management 

  • Maintain and archive accurate, up-to-date technical and HSE documentation in line with site requirements. 

  1. Support team capability and special assignments 

  • Inform and/or train colleagues on new methods, procedures, and techniques. 

  • Support teams in resolving complex HSE issues. 

  • Support special assignments for the Site General Manager, as needed. 

 

Requirements: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or related field); Chemical Engineering preferred. 

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in HSE roles, ideally in the chemical or materials industry. 

  1. Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001 / ISO 14001). 

  1. Proven experience leading PHA sessions and acting as a site-level HSE representative. 

  1. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

  1. Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment. 

  1. HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is a plus.
