We are looking for:

This position is in the Consumer Care team of the Bristol Research & Innovation Centre, a multidisciplinary location which hosts Syensqo North America market application labs and research support labs for microbiology, analytical and physical chemistry studies. The Consumer care team develops new surfactant and natural polymer products, new guide formulations in alignment with the global trends, works on customer formulation and product briefs and provides support to the commercial team. 

The internship is in the area of applied colloid chemistry and formulations and has a dual goal. First is to study the properties of different surfactants and polymers, either individually or in combinations. The focus will be on interfacial properties, foaming, stability and rheology. The second topic will be developing new products, blends or personal cleansing formulations. The new products could be new grades of surfactants, new surfactant blends or new special types of products. They will be evaluated for performance and stability. Examples of possible formulations are body wash, facial wash, cosmetics for skin cleansing. During the internship the student will have a chance to improve her/his understanding of colloid science and its application for developing products and making personal cleansing formulations, to learn new techniques and to have a good understanding of the personal care industry.

• Prepare solutions, dispersions and formulations and test their physicochemical properties such as viscosity, pH, particle size, stability and appearance.

• Prepare personal cleansing formulations and analyze their performance and stability.

• Document laboratory activities and regularly update the electronic laboratory notebook.

• Maintain the laboratory and the associated equipment in safe and clean condition.

• Analyze the data and make summaries, graphs and tables. Prepare reports and presentations on the topics of the research.

• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

You will bring:

• BS with experience or MS level in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields

• Hands-on lab experience and interest in lab work

• Data processing (such as Excel, Google Sheets)

• Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing in English

• Basic knowledge of colloid and surface chemistry is an advantage

• Ability to work on several projects in a proactive way
