We are looking for:
The Research Scientist will focus on creating new process technologies and enhancing current ones within Syensqo’s carbon fiber product portfolio, including PAN and Pitch. Key duties include supporting the core business by executing pilot line trials (Ox/Carb), conducting fiber analysis, and building process expertise over time. Additionally, this position plays a crucial role in our succession planning, as the individual will collaborate with our Principal Scientist to safeguard essential technical and process knowledge at Syensqo.

Develop and demonstrate a high level of technical expertise in the area of PAN and Pitch based carbon fiber materials

Contribute to and lead technical projects for the development of PAN carbon fiber products

Work with scientists and engineers to design and install new process technology

Support the design of the next generation carbon fiber production line

Conduct research and analysis to optimize existing carbon fiber production processes.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations in all process developments.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies into existing systems.

Monitor and evaluate the performance of new technologies to ensure they meet desired outcomes.

Prepare and present technical reports and findings to management and other stakeholders.
You will bring:
-
PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Mechanical Engineering

Demonstrated understanding of carbon fiber processing, to include effects of precursor and oxidation on carbon and carbon fiber structure

Expertise in characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction, Raman microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy

Working understanding of atomistic modeling as applied to carbon fiber structures
-
Understanding of the relationships between process conditions and carbon structure characteristics

Experience working of government funded research programs

Demonstrated problem-solving abilities

Experience in leading projects and strong project management skills

Skilled in delivering technical presentations

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Understanding of Six Sigma or similar design of experiment methodologies

The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $94,960 to $118,700 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
