We are looking for:

Responsible for operating the wastewater pretreatment plant in accordance with pertinent federal, state, and local regulatory compliance and licensing requirements so that the effluent discharged to the SSSD continuously remains within the permitted limits.

Operate boilers and cooling towers to properly adjust chemical dosages for optimum performance to maintain proper biologic and corrosion control. Perform daily boiler checklists and testing as required.

Interface with the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District to provide required communication, test results, and maintain a strong working relationship with the regulatory agency.

 

We count on you for:

  • Conduct operations to maintain plant operation on the WWTU such that proper water treatment according to permit requirements is attained.

  • Record wastewater pretreatment plant instrument readings and enter them into the WWTU Database as well ensuring the reading are within accepted tolerances.

  • Collect samples from, and perform wastewater pretreatment plant laboratory analytical tests on, each functional part of the WWTU and enter the results into the WWTU Database. 

  • See that proper sampling and outside lab testing is completed as required.

  • Analyze the operation of each section of the WWTU using the database, and adjust pump rates and valve settings to optimize systemic performance.

  • Track the consumption of chemicals and order replenishment supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Perform operator maintenance and write Work Orders for maintenance to adjust or repair system electrical/mechanical/instrumentation components that are broken or out of calibration.

  • Monitor boiler and cooling tower treatment levels.  Adjust as necessary.

  • Coordinate all waste disposal at the under the guidance of the Operations Manager.

  • Complete Daily Boiler Checklist

  • Complete Weekly Firewater Checklist

  • Comply with all USEPA, USOSHA, SCDHEC, SCDLL&R, and SSSD regulations that pertain to the operation of the WWTU.

  • Comply with all applicable site Risk Management & Operating Procedures applicable to the WWTU and its safe operation.

  • Maintain the WWTU and surrounding areas in conformance with the highest good housekeeping standards.

  • Use the appropriate PPE for chemical handling or noise exposures.

  • Receive, store, use, and dispose of all chemicals properly.

  • Monitors odor complaints and take a lead role in odor reduction.

  • Promptly report all safety/environmental-related near misses and incidents. Participate in investigations as required.  Perform corrective actions as prescribed.

  • Manage Rhodafac After burner temperature charts on a weekly basis.

  • Oversee SPCC implementation and perform daily inspection of outfalls including appropriate documentation.

  • Manages stormwater pond, sampling, and inspection of the stormwater before discharging to outfall 1.

  • Perform routine inspections of the plant fire pump system and assure proper operations.  This includes appropriate documentation of testing.

  • Develop WWTU operator Training Program and assure that each team member maintains the appropriate licensing level.

  • Assure that WWTU Operators receive their licenses on time and in full, including assuring the documentation is correct.

  • Maintain the appropriate paper and electronic files for WWTU and utilities.

  • Communicate with SSSD under the oversight of the Operations Manager to assure that the proper notifications have been achieved.

  • Manage and respond promptly to any issue raised in the WWTU that is raised by the SSSD or SCDHEC inspectors.

  • Meet or exceed the environmental goals set by the site.

  • Responsible to maintain a quality management system that meets the requirements of the ISO 9001 2015 standard.

You will bring:

  • Minimum of a high school graduate or equivalent education.

  • Maintain a minimum SCDHEC Waste Water treatment License grade of B-Biological from the South Carolina Environmental Certification Board. A-Biological is a plus.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in minor plant maintenance activities.

  • Familiar with SCDHEC regulations and site permits for Water Treatment and Air discharges.

  • Understand and show performance capabilities to properly operate the WWTU.

  • Demonstrate safe working practices.

  • Knowledge of wastewater biological & physical/chemical processes, analytical methods, and best management practices in the areas of personnel safety, general safety, and computer data entry skills.

  • Maintain proficiency required for continuing licensing by the SCECB by attending and collecting the required continuing education unit (CEU) credits.

  • Knowledge of water treatment technology for cooling towers and boilers, including Legionella prevention and eradication.

  • Knowledge of waste management and waste regulations.

  • Be familiar with the chemicals involved in the proper treatment of the water systems and how to perform the proper water quality tests. Work with service contractor on both the cooling towers and boilers to maintain and improve the condition of the boilers and cooling towers.

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is ($40.00 to $45.00 per hour). Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
