Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Permanent contract

USA - Willow Island, WV, US

Nov 6, 2026

Syensqo is all about chemistry. We’re not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet’s beauty for the generations to come.

Role summary:

We’re looking for a Reliability Engineer to help improve equipment uptime, reduce repeat failures, and strengthen safe, reliable operation of our chemical plant. You’ll work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering, with a primary focus on rotating equipment, plus an interface with our Mechanical Integrity (MI) program (supported by an API-certified MI Inspector).

We’re open to candidates with a wide range of experience—if you bring strong troubleshooting skills, a hands-on approach, and the ability to drive improvements, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve reliability and availability of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, agitators, gearboxes, motors, seals, lubrication systems).
  • Lead and facilitate root cause analyses (RCA) for equipment failures and recurring downtime; drive corrective actions to completion.
  • Identify “bad actor” equipment and build practical improvement plans with measurable results.
  • Optimize preventive maintenance (PM) and support predictive maintenance (PdM) efforts (vibration, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasound, motor testing—based on site needs).
  • Partner with Maintenance and Planning to improve job plans, work quality, and execution readiness.
  • Strengthen CMMS/EAM work history and failure data so we can make better decisions (failure coding, downtime tracking, equipment history).
  • Interface with the MI/Inspection program by connecting reliability history and risk to inspection priorities and follow-up actions (repairs, operating changes, design improvements).
  • Spend time in the field validating issues, confirming equipment condition, and ensuring fixes are implemented correctly.
  • Support safe work practices and change control (e.g., MOC) when equipment changes are required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Engineering degree preferred (Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical), but equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience in reliability, maintenance, operations, or engineering in an industrial environment (process manufacturing preferred).
  • Ability to solve problems in a structured way and drive actions to closure (RCA/troubleshooting/improvement plans).
  • Comfortable working in the plant and collaborating with technicians and operators.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance processes and CMMS/EAM work order history (SAP, Maximo, etc.).

Preferred:

  • Chemical/process plant experience.
  • Strong rotating equipment background and/or condition monitoring exposure.
  • Familiarity with reliability tools (asset criticality, bad actor management, RCM concepts, FMEA).
  • Certifications such as CMRP/CRE, vibration/lubrication training, or equivalent.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • The U.S. annual base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this new hire is: $98,720 to $123,400.  Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, such as skills, experience, qualifications, etc. and can ultimately be more or less than the posted salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations
  • Training platform for all employees
  • Free well-being sessions (physical and psychological)
