We are looking for:

The Materials & Testing Laboratory at Syensqo’s Wrexham site is looking to recruit two Engineering Apprentices to join our team.

These apprenticeship roles are intended for individuals who want to develop practical engineering skills in a technical laboratory and machine-shop environment. The roles will focus mainly on the preparation of composite panels and test specimens used to support materials testing activities.

The apprentices will be based within the Wrexham Materials & Testing Laboratory and will work under the supervision of experienced technicians and engineers.

The successful candidates will learn how composite test panels are prepared, fabricated, machined, and converted into test coupons for evaluation. As their skills and experience develop, they may also observe and support selected testing activities, but the main focus of the apprenticeship will be hands-on practical work, safe equipment use, and good laboratory and workshop practice.

No previous industrial experience is required. Training will be provided, and the roles would suit candidates with an interest in engineering, materials, machining, workshop practice, and composite technologies.

 We count on you for:

  • Taking health, safety, and housekeeping seriously at all times.
  • Following instructions carefully and asking questions when unsure.
  • Working in a consistent and accurate way.
  • Treating laboratory and machine-shop equipment with care and respect.
  • Supporting composite panel fabrication and specimen preparation activities.
  • Learning how to use workshop tools and equipment safely under supervision.
  • Working collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and other members of the Materials & Testing team.
  • Being reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
  • Recording work activities where required, in line with laboratory procedures.
  • Building your practical skills throughout the apprenticeship programme.

You can count on us for:

  • A structured apprenticeship opportunity within the Wrexham Materials & Testing Laboratory.
  • Hands-on training in composite panel preparation, machining, and specimen preparation.
  • Supervision and mentoring from experienced technicians and engineers.
  • Exposure to advanced composite materials used in demanding engineering applications.
  • A safe and supportive environment in which to develop practical engineering skills.
  • Support in working towards a relevant Engineering Apprenticeship qualification.
  • The opportunity to build a strong foundation for a future technical career.

 You will bring:

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, in Mathematics and English.
  • A Science, Engineering, Design Technology, or practical subject would be advantageous.
  • An interest in engineering, workshop practice, materials, or manufacturing.
  • A willingness to learn practical skills in a laboratory and machine-shop setting.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

Previous experience is not essential, but the following would be beneficial:

  • Practical school, college, hobby, or work experience involving tools, machinery, workshop equipment, or making activities.
  • Interest in composite materials, aerospace materials, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing.
  • Experience reading simple drawings, measurements, or technical instructions.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.

You will get:

  • A paid apprenticeship role at Syensqo’s Wrexham site.
  • Training and support towards a relevant Engineering Apprenticeship qualification.
  • Practical experience in a specialist Materials & Testing Laboratory.
  • Mentoring from experienced technical staff.
  • Access to company training and development resources.
  • The opportunity to develop skills relevant to engineering, materials testing, composite preparation, and laboratory operations.

Additional information:

  • Number of roles: 2
  • Location: Materials & Testing Laboratory, Syensqo Wrexham
